How to create Rodarte’s romantic braided hair with a rose bun

Braided hairstyles are always in; 2013′s hair trends proving no exception. They’re relatively easy to do, they keep everything in place, and the can transform a look whether with their slick sophistication, their girlishness or their bohemian romance. And once in a while we spot a braid upgrade that truly captures our eyes and heart. One such is the the one we spotted at the Rodarte fall 2013 show.

Season after season, Rodarte delivers not only with their collection but also in the hairstyle they present it with. For fall 2013, the tie dyed prints of the collection were matched with a “rocker princess” look created by Odile Gilbert for John Frieda. How to: half up braided hair with bun.

Start working on this hairstyle by prepping up. On damp hair, apply a good amount of styling mousse like John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse. This will help you get the texture needed to pull this look off.

Once you’ve applied the mousse, blow dry your hair straight.

Take a two inch curling iron and use it to create loose waves on your hair. Get a section of your hair and spray it with some hairspray (for the show John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray was used). Then wrap your hair around the curling iron and let it stay for 3-5 seconds before letting it go. Remember that if you hold your hair in the curling iron too long and it will create tight curls, while you want them to be looser for this look.

Next brush out your hair with your fingers to create a natural texture then create the half up braids. Take about a 1 1/2 – 2 inch section of hair right above your ears and then create a braid or plait (either works fine) that’s long enough to reach the center of the back of your head. Secure the braid with an elastic and then do the same thing again for the other side of your head.

Once you’ve done both braids, secure them together with an elastic and then with their ends create a rose bun. You do this by simply making the loose ends go around in a circle and then securing them with a bobby pin.

Create another braid on the section right under the rose bun and secure it with another elastic. This gives the illusion of the third braid stemming from the same hair as the rose, but really it’s made from separate hair underneath.

Finish this hairstyle by misting it with some hairspray again. This will keep everything in place.

Sweet yet a little grungy and boho, this is the braid for the modern day princess who’s no damsel-in-distress. It’s also very flexible which means you can wear it day or night, casual of formal.
