How to: a slicked hairstyle for wavy hair

Different textures have different effects on certain hairstyles and for Rag+Bone’s spring / summer 2013 collection, Redken’s Creative Consultant Guido Palau took this knowledge and created a look that utilized two opposing textures. The result is a wet look in front, wavy in the back hairstyle that can be done by almost everyone – especially those who have naturally wavy hair.

This 2013 hairstyle is an ode to the aesthetic Rag+Bone is known for, soft yet strong, feminine and masculine, structured yet still laid back. In a few easy steps, you can own this hairstyle yourself. Check out the how to right after the break.

How to: slicked hairstyle for wavy hair

First things first, prep you hair by applying Redken’s guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to damp hair from roots to ends. This will help you in styling.
Using a dryer, rough dry hair with fingers for a textured finish, raking hair back from the forehead as you dry.
Next you’ll need waves on the lower two-thirds of the hair. You can do this using a hot iron.

If you have straight hair you will have to put in extra effort into doing this. Take 1 inch to 1.5 inch sections of your hair and wrap it around the curling iron. Hold it for a few seconds, about 5-10 will do. You can also use your fingers to lightly touch the hair you’re curling, if you feel the heat then you can release your hair from the iron. Once you’ve curled all the sections of your hair, run your fingers lightly through it. Don’t worry if it looks too curly because having straight hair means that your curls will loosen up on its own.

For those who have naturally wavy hair like me, you’re in luck. All you have to do is to fix your waves. Take the curling iron and just curl random sections (about 2-3 inches) for a few seconds. This is similar to twirling your hair around your fingers.

Apply a generous amount of hardwear 16 super strong gel to the front 2-3 inches of hair, slicking back with fingers and leaving the forehead exposed.
Spray the top third of style with forceful 23 super-strength finishing spray, concentrating on the crown. Use the blow-dryer once again on the front 2-3 inches of hair to really set the style.

Not all runway hairstyles are hard to do, in the case of this dual textured hairstyle, all you need to do are five easy steps. This hairstyle is perfect if you want an edgy look while still keeping that femininity, and it’s great as a style for those with natural waves who don’t want to go for a straight hairstyle.
