How to: Leowe’s uptown bouffant

In full bloom, the flower power of the sixties has made its way to the runways of 2013. From color blocked shift dresses to beauty looks, the swinging ’60s trend is one of the biggest this year and taking cue from this, Leowe made use of a very 1960s hairstyle for their fall / winter 2013 show.

Guido Palau, creative director of Redken updated the ’60s bouffant and gave it a more approachable and back-combed feel for the Leowe show. He describes it as an uptown look, one that an elegant and sophisticated lady might wear out to dinner. While this look is fashionable and classy, it still retains a do-it-yourself or DIY feel to it and it’s really not that difficult to recreate. To get this 2013 hairstyle for yourself, follow the steps after the break.

How to: Leowe’s uptown bouffant

Start by prepping your hair. Apply Redken Full Effect 04 nourishing mousse to damp hair to help you get the volume needed for a bouffant.
Next, blow-dry your hair section by section. Lift your hair at the roots to create maximum volume at the crown.

Apply Redken Quick Tease 15 backcombing finishing spray to the crown section by section, holding each section for a few seconds to let it dry before moving onto the next. After the Quick Tease 15 has dried completely, backcomb hair with an oval boar bristle brush for volume throughout the crown.

Add Redken Powder Refresh 01 dry shampoo for light, airy texture.
Gather the lengths of the hair at the nape of the neck but make sure to leave the volume created on top. Then tie into a low ponytail with an elastic.

Finish the style with a light mist of Redken Forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to retain the “wispy” texture and volume. This will also hold the shape of your bouffant.

While this look is easy to do, it still makes a huge impact even if you’re just wearing it with a plain black dress. The 60s may have been long gone but it’s safe to say that bouffants are here to stay.
