How to: the effortless, textured low pony

As true a staple of fall 2013 hair trends as it was in spring, the low ponytail can really do no wrong. Effortless, easy, versatile, there are numerous ways to do one.

At the Victoria Beckham fall 2013 show, Redken’s Guido created a contrastingly tousled hairstyle to add dimension to the tailored clothing. “This style is meant to look very easy, almost accidental, but note the emphasis is on the texture – I wanted it to look really drenched in shine, not quite totally wet, but almost.”

For details on how to create this shiny, textured and tousled low ponytail, read on.

First, blow-dry the hair with your fingers instead of a brush. Drag your fingers through the hair as you dry it so that the end result is straight but not perfect and retains a natural texture.
Once dry, apply an Argan oil from lengths to ends, adding a few drops into your palm (number of drops depending on hair length & thickness) and then emulsifying in your hands and applying all over. At Victoria Beckham, Redken Argan-6 Oil was used.

For an extra glossy finish, apply a shine serum (like Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist) all over the hair.
Gather the hair into a loose low ponytail with a messy, undefined side part. Pull out some pieces around the face and leave one ear exposed for an effortless, tousled look.

You can experiment with the style by adding more or less shine for a more dry or a very wet look hairstyle.
