How to: Diesel’s grungy wet ponytail

Leave it to a brand named Diesel to come up with an exciting collection aptly entitled “Need for Speed”. With a new creative director, Diesel, a brand that we’ve known for years, took on a new direction and a simple way to describe this is fast and modern. Their autumn / winter 2013 collection was very motorbike-chic and to go with this, Redken’s Global Styling Director Guido Palau updated the ponytail by giving it an edge.

Wet look hair is one of 2013′s biggest hair trends and Guido incorporated this trend into the Diesel hairstyle. The result is a grungy wet ponytail that’s easy to do and easy to rock. Check out the steps right after the break.

How to: Diesel’s grungy wet ponytail

Start this hairstyle with slightly damp hair. Then saturate your hair with Redken full frame 07 mousse working section by section and adding most on the crown. This will help you in styling.
Next, rake your hair back with your fingers and secure into a low pony with a hair tie.
Clip the sides of the pony in place and gently pull hair up at the crown so that it dries with a little height.
It’s best to let your hair dry naturally but if you’re pressed for time you can use a blow dryer. Guido used blow dryers given timing at the Diesel show, spraying Redken control addict 28 high control hairspray into the style as he dried it. This will keep your wet look ponytail in place even if you heat it up with the blow dryer.
Finish your hairstyle taking Redken’s control addict 28 high control hairspray again and then spraying it all
over your hairstyle for extra hold. Guido “overused” the hairspray for a laquer-like finish that would stay in place for the duration of the show. This will really give your hair that wet look finish.

A grungy hairstyle like this one is a sure fire way to spice up any look. You don’t really have to go all out biker, you can pair it up with a simple ensemble like a little black dress for a night out. The best part of this hairstyle is it takes a few minutes to do all you need are the right products.
