Hair how-to: the Pocahontas plait

Free-sprited, native and free is how one would describe the aesthetic seen at Flannel’s spring 2013 show during Australian Fashion Week (MBFWA).

To go along with the designs was a hairstyle by Redken hair director Paloma Rose Garcia. This effortless style that perfectly fits to 2013′s hair trends is inspired by an American-Indian, Pocahontas-like look. Garcia mentioned that since Flannel’s collection has a lot of neutral colours, she wanted the hairstyle to look more natural to reflect the clothes.
The hairstyle is quite easy to recreate on your own, and it’s simple enough for you to wear it everyday. It’s perfect for the free spirited, strong adventurous woman: just like Pocahontas. Here are the quick steps on how you can have this plaited hairstyle.

How to: Flannel’s Pocahontas plait

Spritz Redken’s Rootful 06 root lifting spray on to your hair from the roots to the tips until completely wet.
Softly work the product onto your hair using the tips of your fingers and a hair drier set on low. Make sure it is dried completely.
Gather your hair together low at the nape of the neck while letting tendrils flow loose naturally around the face.

At the nape, make a loose plait (it should be roughly 3 inches long or more depending on the length of your hair) and then separate the lengths of the hair into two sections, top and bottom. Using a hair tie, loosely tuck top section under to secure the plait.
Finish off the look with Redken’s Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray for extra shine and hold.
