To give something texture means that you give it a rough or raised feel. The opposite of smooth and sleek, it’s something that we commonly hear and see in fashion. Texture gives an extra “edge”, a wow factor that makes a piece of clothing stand out and when this is applied to hairstyles, the result is nothing short of eye catching.

This concept of using strong and ‘raw’ texture was seen on the L’Oreal Paris Runway 07 show at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. The show featured notable designers from the Australian fashion scene and it’s only fitting that an international runway inspired hairstyle was done on the models. It was L’Oréal Professionnel Ambassador Caterina DiBiase who was behind the raw textured ponytail. This variation of the low ponytail – a big hairstyle trend for 2013 – was inspired by different iconic fashion houses like Chloe and Calvin Klein. This look is one that will elevate any outfit and we’ve got the how to right after the break.

How to: raw textured ponytail

Since this is a very textured hairstyle, you’ll need to prep your hair with two types of mousse. Start with L’Oreal Tecni.art Volume Lift at the roots and working the product through the lengths for body. Then follow it with an application of Tecni.art Full Volume Extra for hold and to help you in styling.

Leave your hair to dry naturally while occasionally using your fingers to comb through it to keep the soft texture.

Once dried, backcomb your hair at the roots just above the nape. Then sprinkle Tecni.ArtTexture Dust through the top lengths, especially at the crown to keep it textured.

Spray the rest of the hair with hairspray for hold. On this runway, L’Oreal’s Infinium Lumière hairspray was used.

Create a center part. Leave the shorter hair around the front of your face loose and then pull the lengths into a low
ponytail. To create texture, rub the ponytail between your fingers.

The low ponytail is a big trend this season and this is an effortlessly chic variation of it. This raw textured ponytail will amp up any ensemble and will surely make you feel like a fashion icon.
