How to create a relaxed, retro-inspired quiff for men

Retro looks with modern twists are all over the different runway shows in the different parts of the globe. For Australian fashion week, several remakes of classic or vintage hairstyles were spotted, one of which was seen in the Vanishing Elephant show.

Vanishing Elephant featured a women’s and menswear collection that was very casual chic. To go well with what the brand and collection is about, Redken Hair Director Jon Pulitano created a men’s 2013 hairstyle that’s reminiscent of the vintage 1950s quiff only done with a modern twist. The contemporary feel comes in by way of the effortless factor: rather than be too sculptured and perfect, this version is a little bit haphazard.

This quiff is very easy to do and we have the how to right after the break.

How to: relaxed retro quiff

Run some Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine oil through the hair from roots to ends and blow dry it back away from the face.
Straighten the top layers back away from the face using a flat iron styler.
Take some gel and lightly work through the straightened sections. Backstage, the team used Redken For Men Stand Tough extreme gel. Use a comb to push hair back and direct across it both sides of the head.
Lock this look in with hairspray (at Vanishing Elephant, Redken Control Addict 28 was used), spraying at a close distance to the hair for a wet look finish.

Quick and easy, this look is very casual yet still very stylish. It’s a hairstyle a man can wear to work or to a date and create a good impression.
